Principal, Washington District Elementary School

Dear Washington District Elementary School families,

It is hard to believe we are nearing the end of the second quarter and preparing to welcome 2025! This season brings an opportunity for reflection, celebration, and connection. Our students, staff, and families have accomplished so much together, and I am grateful for the incredible partnership we share in supporting our learners.

This past month, we’ve seen amazing examples of growth and engagement. Whether it’s the creativity displayed in classrooms, progress in reading and math, or the way students are demonstrating kindness and respect throughout the school, these moments remind us why we do what we do.

Looking ahead, December will be a month filled with meaningful learning experiences and opportunities to come together as a school community. We invite you to join us on December 19th for our Winter Concert and Family Engagement event starting at 1:00 p.m., as this offers wonderful ways to celebrate the season and connect with one another.

As winter break approaches, I encourage you to take time to enjoy moments with your family. Whether through reading a favorite story together, exploring a fun activity, or simply enjoying the warmth of home, these shared experiences are invaluable.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. On behalf of our entire school team, I would like to wish you and your family a wonderful holiday season.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kayla D. Yocum

The Ag Lab Comes to WDES!

The Agriculture Lab will be visiting our school January 21st-24th! This interactive, hands-on experience will provide our students with the opportunity to explore the world of agriculture, learn about where their food comes from, and engage in activities that connect science, technology, and nature.

To make this experience a success, we need volunteers to assist with activities and help guide students through the lab. Whether you can volunteer for a full day or just a few hours, your support will make a big difference!

If you’re interested in volunteering, please complete the Volunteer Interest Form using the link provided (https://forms.office.com/r/AWtKdfiVtL). All volunteers must have completed the volunteer requirements prior to the event.

Family Connection

Celebrate Family Stories

The fall and winter season bring a time of togetherness. We encourage you to take a few moments together to talk about family history, look through old photos, or share favorite stories from the past. Whether it’s a tale about a grandparent’s adventures or your own childhood memories, these moments can spark meaningful conversations and help children feel connected to their roots. For a list of activities, visit https://bit.ly/FamilyStoriesMonth.

Consider writing down these stories, recording them, or even creating a family storybook to pass down through the years. Enjoy this special time together!

When do absences become a problem?
