On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the Upshur County Central Office Administration, led by Superintendent Miller, met with the Principals of Upshur County. During this meeting, Superintendent Miller discussed leadership lessons, the importance the implementation of PAX with 100% constancy, and financial concerns. Mr. Gray, Director of Curriculum, discussed the upcoming social studies curriculum adoption and the upcoming iReady benchmark starting on January 8th. Mrs. Johnson, Director of Federal Programs, reviewed recent updates from the WV Department of Education. She emphasized the importance of documenting progress on school strategic plans, provided updates on RCD, and discussed changes to this year’s general summative assessment. Mr. Sisk, Director of Safety & Technology, discussed the need for increased communication from the schools, the completion of the spring West Virginia School Learning Environment Survey, and a vaping update. Mrs. Osburn, Director of Special Education, discussed at length upcoming training that special education personnel will need to be part of to ensure compliance with her expectations. Mr. McDaniels, Director of Nutrition, gave an update on nurses' schedules, the major reduction of kitchen violations noted by the health inspector, and a reminder that all food invoices must be turned into the central office in a timely manner. Mr. Derico, Director of Facilities, stressed the importance of continual care of the building especially during winter. He addressed the reduction of melting salt entering the building, conducted exit light inspections, and emphasized the necessity of a mid-year deep clean. Mrs. Baisden, Director of Student Services, stressed the importance of regular child and teacher attendance in the schools. Additionally, Mrs. Baisden discussed the upcoming Civil Rights Survey that must be completed and the work that the principals will need do to assist with an accurate survey.
